Army chief Chalermchai Sitthisad has shrugged off demands made by anti-regime groups calling on the military to withdraw its support for the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO). Col Sirichan Ngathong, deputy spokeswoman of the NCPO, said yesterday Gen Chalermchai, who also holds the position of NCPO secretary-general, insisted the army still supports the government under the working guidance of the NCPO. Col Sirichan was speaking after a meeting of the NCPO's secretary-general office yesterday chaired by Gen Chalermchai. She said Gen Chalermchai insisted that the country is moving into election mode. Democracy Restoration Group leader Rangsiman Rome also urged the military to withdraw its support for the NCPO.
